Our Vision & Principles

VISION - All people seeking to live in, living in or travelling to Ireland are guaranteed their human rights
MISSION - The ICI is an independent organisation comprising migrants and non-migrants whose aim is to achieve a rights-based approach to immigration
VALUES - Integrity – Social Justice – Equality – Solidarity
Dignity – Human Rights – Respect for Diversity

These core values are demonstrated by our belief that:

  • Information provided to migrants should be accessible, accurate, clear, objective and practical
  • Legislation should be humane and migrants should have access to justice
  • Access to services should be equitable for all
  • Immigration to Ireland is a positive reality and one which will enhance our country
  • Ireland’s immigration and integration policies should be fair, just and rights-based
  • Cultural, religious and ethnic diversity should be respected and supported
  • Migrants should be facilitated to participate, and be represented, in all areas of Irish society

Principles

The Immigrant Council of Ireland works through the following principles:

  • We work from a human rights framework.
  • We recognise the structural inequalities of ethnicity, class, gender and status in Irish society. Our work is placed within this context of inequality and we advocate for changes that address these inequalities.
  • We prioritise the involvement and participation of those affected by immigration in all our work.

We believe migrants have:

  • The right to information regarding their rights and entitlements
  • The right to protection from exploitation
  • The right to a clear, transparent system for long-term, permanent residency
  • The right to a family life
  • The right to access to justice and a fair and transparent system
  • The right and means to participate in civil society
