Anti Human Trafficking Unit
Friday, 03 September 2010
The ICI is an active participant in the Government’s consultations on the development and implementation of the National Action Plan to Prevent and Combat Trafficking of Human Beings. The consultation forum is convened by the Anti Human Trafficking Unit and consists of five thematic working groups and a high-level quarterly roundtable meeting. The Unit was established in February 2008 to ensure that the State’s response to trafficking is co-ordinated, comprehensive and holistic. It works closely with both State and non-governmental organisations. The Unit is also responsible for the implementation of the National Action Plan.
The ICI hosts an informal NGO anti-trafficking alliance that consults on joint statements and presentations and submission to the Unit working group forums. The ICI also delivers separate presentations and submissions and participates in three of the five working groups on the themes – sexual exploitation; child trafficking; and the national referral mechanism.
The ICI also participates in the Unit’s High Level Group quarterly roundtables, which advise the High Level Intradepartmental Group on its decision marking in relation to the implementation of the National Action Plan.
