CADIC Coalition

The CADIC Coalition (formerly known as the Coalition against the Deportation of Irish Children) was established in 2003 to promote the rights of a specific group of families comprised of Irish citizen children, their migrant parents and other close family members.

The CADIC Coalition lobbied for the rights of parents of Irish children to gain residency in Ireland on the basis of the rights of their Irish citizen child.

The ICI was a member of the CADIC Coalition and its management committee from 2003. Other members of CADIC were:

  • AkiDwA
  • Cairde
  • Children’s Rights Alliance
  • Doras Luimni
  • FLAC
  • Galway Refugee Support Group
  • Integrate Mallow (Avondhu Development Group)
  • Integrating Ireland
  • Integration of African Children in Ireland
  • Irish Council for Civil Liberties
  • Irish Refugee Council
  • Longford Women’s Link
  • Louth African Women’s Group
  • Mayo Intercultural Action
  • Migrant Rights Centre Ireland
  • NASC
  • New Ross Intercultural Group and Direct Provision Integration Group
  • Refugee Information Service
  • Refugee Project
  • Tallaght Intercultural Action
  • Vincentian Refugee Centre
  • Waterford Refugee and Asylum Seeker Council

The CADIC Coalition came to an end at the end of 2007, as its main aims had been achieved with the granting of residence permits to almost 17,000 people through the Government’s IBC/05 Scheme and the introduction of a fair and transparent scheme for the renewal of permits.

Organisations which had been part of the coalition continue to provide services to parents of Irish citizen children on a wide variety of issues. The ICI’s Senior Solicitor continues to work on cases involving Irish citizen children and their family members with regard to residency and family reunification matters.

The ICI also provides information and support to migrant parents of Irish citizen children on behalf of the CADIC Coalition through the CADIC Coalition Helpline (within the ICI Information and Support Service). This service will continue until the end of 2008. After that, migrant parents of Irish citizen children will still be able to access our Information and Support Service.
