ICI Leadership Programme

Leadership Programme

Throughout 2008, the Immigrant Council of Ireland (ICI) will be holding a Leadership Programme for people who work in migrant-focussed, non-government organisations and/or migrant community organisations throughout the country....

The programme aims to:

  • develop participants’ leadership, communication, fundraising and social entrepreneurial skills amongst others

  • provide participants and their organisations with an opportunity to work with other activists in the area of migration and integration in influencing change

  • provide an opportunity to build or strengthen participants’ links with other individuals and organisations engaged in policy work which should enable consensus development

The programme covers:

  • facilitative leadership

  • the legal context and immigration policy in Ireland

  • building a communications strategy

  • lobbying/influencing policy

  • making the case: from service provision to policy

  • funding

  • social entrepreneurship

The programme involves theoretical background, decision making, problem solving, team building, strategic planning and developing action plans. Course trainers include both ICI staff and external experts and guest speakers will address participants during each module of the course.

The modules are:

  1. Module 1: Facilitative Leadership (25-27 March 2008)
  2. Module 2: The Legal Context and Immigration Policy in Ireland (16-17 April 2008)
  3. Module 3: Building a Communications Strategy (14 May 2008)
  4. Module 4: Lobbying/Influencing Policy (11 June 2008)
  5. Module 5: From Service Provision to Policy via Research (10 September 2008)
  6. Module 6: Funding (8 October 2008)
  7. Module 7: Social Entrepreneurship (9 October 2008)
