Show Racism the Red Card

Creative Competiton

We are delighted to invite Secondary School communities, Youth Clubs and Young Artists (third-level students aged 18+) to take part in our Creative Competition. The Creative Competition is our annual event which takes place in October, marking Black History Month.

This year, the focus is on using art to promote anti-racism and celebrate diversity on social media.

We are accepting entries until 8 pm on 24th of October 2025.

The THEME

Social media can be an excellent tool for connecting with others or expressing our thoughts, opinions, and how we want to be perceived. However, it can also be a toxic place where we become estranged from each other and allow ourselves to be abusive and spread hate. Let's use art and creative messages to stand up to racism and create a space for love, inclusion, and solidarity on social media platforms!

Entries should meet the broad requirement of promoting anti-racism and/or celebrating diversity.

WHO and WHAT

We welcome artworks from Secondary School students, Youth Club members or Young Artists (third-level students aged 18+).

We accept submissions for visual art, creative writing, poetry, music, film, and posters embedded in a real or imagined social media campaign.

Secondary School student & Youth Club member Competition

Students and Youth Club members can only apply through their teachers or youth workers! Based on age group and level of publicity, there are four categories available.

Categories:

TABLE1

Social media consciousness and publicity are the central elements of the competition. Therefore, we encourage schools and youth clubs to support their students and members by offering them the institution’s social media accounts to create a “campaign” and post their artworks. To ensure children’s anonymity in the ONLINE competition, we only accept social media posts on the accounts of schools or youth clubs.

At the same time, we would like to offer an opportunity to those who do not want publicity or do not have access to social media. We suggest that they join the OFFLINE competition.

Young Artists’ Competition

Third-level students aged 18+ are welcome to apply to a separate competition individually, on their own behalf.

There are three categories, and the social media platforms define these. The Show Racism the Red Card Creative Competition invites entries in the form of social media posts featuring artwork (visual art, creative writing, poetry, music, film, and posters) that promote anti-racism and diversity.

You can only use the same artwork and submit it for the competition on one platform. But you can compete in each of the three platform categories with three different artworks.
