Diversity Matters training

This training is aimed at employers and organisations wanting to promote a positive working environment by developing a tailored diversity strategy to meet their workforce’s needs. This programme also includes tailored cultural competency training for frontline staff with a focus on the Public Sector duty.

Audience


Our Diversity training is best suited for HR professionals, Diversity & Inclusion teams, Management teams, as well as any business, organisation or service with frontline staff interacting with customers and clients from different backgrounds.

Goals


Learn how to promote a positive, inclusive working environment; Empower frontline staff to effectively interact with customers/clients from different backgrounds. 

Structure and format


Training is very interactive and aims to stimulate participants to reflect on personal and societal attitudes and behaviours to diversity. Participants will acquire a deeper understanding of diversity and an ability to develop meaningful intercultural relationships.

Standard topics
 

  • Introduction to statutory requirements including relevant laws and policies, with a particular focus on the Public Sector Duty
  • Effective approaches to integration 
  • Ways to foster inclusivity and promote positive work environment
  • Ways to improve equality and respect for cultural differences in your service provision
  • How to ensure anti-racism is knitted into all policies

Meet the trainers


Teresa Buczkowska, Integration Manager

Immigrant Council Integration Manager Teresa BuczkowskaTeresa Buczkowska is a Polish migrant woman living in Ireland since 2005. She joined the Immigrant Council of Ireland in 2013, initially as an Integration Intern, progressing to the position of the Integration Team Coordinator in 2015.

Teresa holds an MA in Ethnography and Social Anthropology from Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland. Teresa is a qualified trainer in diversity management, intercultural competency and anti-racism. In 2019 she was awarded a bursary by the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission to study for a Professional Diploma in Human Rights and Equality at the Institute for Public Administration.

Teresa is published both in Ireland and internationally on racism, integration best practices and integration politics. In December 2019 Teresa was appointed to the board of the Arts Council.

Valéria Aquino, Integration Officer

Immigrant Council Integration Officer Valéria AquinoValéria has over 15 years’ experience working for organisations in the private, public and non-profit sector, such as Department of Social Protection, Robert Bosch Institute and GAIA Social. Her areas of expertise are: community development, corporate social responsibility and civil engagement.

Valéria holds a Bachelor of Social Work from Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas, and also a Postgraduate Diploma in Economics (Management & Strategy) and a diploma in Special Studies in Education and Human Rights, both from the University of Campinas. Her field of research is focused on public participation, as she has a strong background in community work and politics, she was also an active member of the Students Union in Brazil, and an elected Delegate representing the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas in the National Congress of Students.

Currently she is a board member at AMBI (Association of Brazilian Families in Ireland) a 10 year old organisation that provides support for Brazilian immigrants living in Ireland and also a board member at MWU (Migrant Women United).
