Dr Diego Castillo
Dr. Diego Castillo Goncalves is originally from Brazil and has lived in Ireland for 10 years.
Diego has worked and volunteered with migrant communities and in the human rights context in a variety of roles. More recently, Diego worked as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the School of Law, Trinity College Dublin, and in the Policy unit of the Ombudsman for Children’s Office (OCO), an independent human rights institution.
Previously, he worked as a Legal Advisor with Asylum Access Malaysia, and as the Children and Young Persons’ Officer with the Irish Refugee Council. He further engaged as a Trustee with Safe Haven Ireland, an Irish non-profit organisation focusing on migrant and refugee youth integration.
Diego holds a PhD in Law from Trinity College Dublin. His PhD research focused on the operationalisation of children’s rights in the context of asylum procedures. Diego has previously published in the areas of migration, ethics, and children’s rights.
