Immigrant Council of Ireland to no longer use social media platform X
19.01.2026 - The Immigrant Council of Ireland will no longer maintain a presence on the platform X from 19th January 2026.
As an organisation working to support migrants in Ireland, including those who are victims of human trafficking or domestic violence, the Immigrant Council is appalled by the use of artificial intelligence by X’s own AI Grok to create and share non-consensual intimate imagery of women and girls.
We have watched with growing unease the proliferation of racism, misogyny and xenophobia on X in recent times. This latest demonstration of hate and abuse only underlines our reasons for no longer being present on the platform.
Human trafficking for sexual exploitation and domestic violence are serious human rights abuses that heavily impact migrant women and girls. The online violence seen on X greatly exacerbates the situation, making it much easier for women and girls to be targeted and harmed.
As we head into 2026, the Immigrant Council will continue our work to eliminate violence against women and to support victims.
You can continue to follow us and find information on how to get support via our other channels: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, BlueSky, and TikTok.
